The Black -and White- Dahlia

Now this one I had a bit of a tiff with. D:< The dahlia I was drawing after had (like most dahlias) a little curve to the petals, but in the picture the petals only curved on the front side. So this is the way I drew it. And somehow it just didn't look right, like I didn't draw in the petals on the front. So I scanned it the way it was now and this is the original. Then I went back and drew in the curve so it's dark. Then I scanned it again and this is the second: [link]
Still I don't think it looks quite right. I don't know,
which do you think looks better?

I remember once when I was little I persauded my mom to buy a three dahlia plants. She kept telling me that they would die though, because we didn't have enough sun to grow them. I remember I got the laugh out of it though because those dahlia's lasted till winter. (:
